Asya El-Meehy

Asya El-Meehy is officer of governance and public administration at United Nations-ESCWA. This article is based on fieldwork in the Basatin and Heliopolis neighborhoods of Cairo, as well as the towns of Kafr al-Sheikh and Qina. Funding for research was provided by Arizona State University’s New College, where the author previously served as assistant professor of comparative politics.
